Reflectorless Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM)
Reflectorless Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM) is a technology used in surveying and geodesy to measure distances without the need for a physical reflector. Traditional EDM instruments require a reflector to bounce a laser beam back to the instrument for distance measurement. Reflectorless EDM, on the other hand, uses a laser beam that is emitted from the instrument and directly measures the distance to the target surface, such as a building corner, a rock face, or any other solid object, without the need for a reflector.
Reflectorless EDM instruments typically use phase-shift measurement techniques or time-of-flight measurements to calculate distances accurately.
